About the Seeds from the Sacred Feminine Wisdom Cards

Elder Tom McCallum

“What a wonderfully refreshing idea. Truly inspired by the spirit of the female lifegiver as it yields the tremendous opening of the passageway to life to be lived to its fullest potential. As has been prophesied the female energy is leading the way to renewal and prosperity as the Creator had intended.”

—Tom McCallum, Métis Elder and Lodge Keeper

Mirabai Starr

“What a feast! This collection of inspirational cards invoking the wisdom of the feminine is created entirely by Indigenous women, permeated by the fierce and tender heart of the Grandmothers. The artwork is glorious, the teachings are both luminous and grounded, the combination truly transformational. I will be gifting these cards, with the accompanying handbook, again and again.”

—Mirabai Starr, poet and author of Wild Mercy and God of Love

Andrew Harvey

“Nothing is more important than being guided by the Sacred Feminine, the tremendous force of love that is trying to birth a new humanity out of the smoking ashes of the old. Andrea Menard knows this in her bones and has created, out of her own profound journey, a set of absolutely precise and beautiful cards that will be of great help to all those who know that loving the Mother and listening to her truth are the keys to human survival. I shall use these cards myself and recommend them with great joy.”

—Andrew Harvey, bestselling author of The Guide to Sacred Activism and The Return of the Mother

Barbara Hand Clow

“The Seeds from the Sacred Feminine is a delicate, gentle, and kind teaching that will help you get in touch with our sacred grandmothers, our guides for being in tune with nature and mother earth. Using this wisdom will draw you into the natural laws of Earth by helping you to return to emotional and mental harmony based on balancing yourself with the four sacred directions. The Messages are a special and comfortable way to be with the spirits and nature.”

—Barbara Hand Clow, author of Awakening the Planetary Mind and Alchemy of Nine Dimensions

Louise B. Halfe

"These are beautiful inspirational cards. They follow the medicine wheel  paying attention to the land, water, wind and sun. May we all pay heed and  allow our souls to rest upon any given day, to meditate on the thought  and allow spirit to carry us to that place of wholeness.”

- Louise B. Halfe, poet, author of The Crooked Good and Burning in this Midnight

Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona

“The art on Andrea’s cards is amazing and inspirational, but, more importantly, these cards can be really helpful for people who are healing from emotional unwellness or substance use. In my clinical work with people who are suffering, I need aids to offer them: reminders of the slow medicine, reminders to use the wisdom of the ancestors, because, when they do, they feel better. These cards are a useful resource for that purpose.”

—Lewis Mehl-Madrona, MD, author of Coyote Medicine and Healing the Mind through the Power of Story

The History

For those who have been following the journey from the beginning, you know that the Seeds from the Sacred Feminine wisdom cards were released as a limited edition, independent deck in 2020, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Clan Mothers Healing Village. The product that is finally available today is the culmination of a wonderful, multi-year collaboration with Mango Publishing, which includes an agreement to honour Andrea’s original vision of giving back to community through the Clan Mothers Healing Village.

The deck has changed in many ways but the integrity and the Metis spirit of the original deck is fully present. In fact, there are 13 new paintings by Leah Dorion to match the teachings in a deeper way AND there are a few new messages. Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

“Andrea Menard has created a beautiful, earthy, authentic tool to help us open up and invite the deep guidance we desire from the unseen realms of Wisdom. Each page is overflowing with compassion and Truth. This is quenching water for a parched soul. The illustrations by Leah Marie Dorion are beautiful and nourishing as well. They begin the process of opening us to the messages before the words are seen, making us more receptive to the messages that go with them. This guidance from The Patchwork Grandmothers gives us juice to go forward with our own sacred work in the world.”

—Rev. Mary Murray Shelton, author of Nourishing Thoughts and A Darkness Filled with Light

The Handbook

Andrea Menard

The Author

The handbook is full of simple, yet profound Sacred Feminine wisdom written by Metis author, Andrea Menard. Born in Manitoba, Andrea was raised all across the homeland of the Métis and now currently lives in Vancouver, BC on the unsurrendered territory of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil Waututh peoples.

Andrea Menard is the founder of the Sacred Feminine Learning Lodge and teaches individuals how to reclaim and embody the qualities of the Sacred Feminine. She carries the name Skooteah Equahh, which means Fire Woman in Anishinaabemowin and the Nêhiyewan name Notigwew Yutin, which means Grandmother Wind. These elemental names deeply inform Andrea’s work and colour the land-based messages contained in this oracle card deck. Andrea’s messages will help you reclaim your jumbled thoughts, listen to your feelings when they are stirred, and accept the assistance of your Spirit helpers and Earth relations.

The Artwork

Leah Marie Dorion

The Artist

The stunning artwork contained in the deck are a collection of original paintings by Metis painter, Leah Marie Dorion. Leah Marie Dorion is an interdisciplinary Métis artist raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Leah’s paintings honour the spiritual strength of Indigenous women and the sacred feminine. Her paintings show the great interrelatedness of all things in creation. In her work there is a great representation of the four elements of life, earth, air, fire and water, with Earth Mother as the greatest giver of life. This collection of paintings celebrates humanity’s spiritual connection to the land. The ancient symbols of the turtle and mother serpent represent the sacred feminine powers associated with the Earth. Leah loves portraying Indigenous women in a beautiful and wholesome manner as they are considered the first teachers and givers of life in our cultural teachings.

The Seeds from the Sacred Feminine by Andrea Menard & artist Leah Marie Dorion, both of the Métis Nation of Canada. The gentle keyphrases, painted Indigenous figures & sacred symbols are an invitation to spiritual connection with the land offering reMatriation for people of all genders & cultures.

The cards are glossy & flexible. It shuffles & bridges easily on thin & sturdy stock. The card backs bear the Patchwork Grandmothers logo and are non-reversible, posing no issues for the intended use. The book is full of resources & the keyphrases are simple.

The cards have human figures with a range of brown skin tones, vibrant color & texture. The alphabetical handbook led me to the keyphrase meanings in a voice that felt wise. When addressing the readers all are referred to as “Grandchild” with no gender identification. The images contain a range of human figures where gender cues might be assumed male or female, & cards where gender expression cues are absent I found myself looking for the meaning of the circular four-colored wheels hidden in the images. This wasn’t stated in the guidebook. I checked myself at that moment. It’s my job to research & go find what these symbols mean to this culture. This was another way to fill in the gaps in my one-culture life. I dove into Leah Dorion’s website & found the medicine wheel & other symbol meanings. I learned that her paintings used here were completed before the deck was conceptualized by the creator.

My four-card spread referenced the four directions, moving clockwise as the Cree Nation suggests. Symbols now came alive & the simple keyphrases took on deeper meanings. I was feeling nourished in the most elemental ways. I never felt I was sneaking into a private ceremony as a person of caucasian descent, but instead invited into a grandmother’s arms to learn. My only regret was that I yearned to pull back the large borders & learn more of this beautiful culture.
